The Beauty Dish
Well, inspired by the one and only Joel Grimes and his latest series on [Framed] called Lit-Up, I’ve gone and invested in a small Cowboystudio 16in Beauty Dish to try some new lighting ideas. For $50, how can you go wrong? It comes with the mounting bracket (not great, but does the job), the 16″ dish and sock. I’ve only had the chance to do a few shots with my son so far, but I am loving the dramatic light it casts. No other lights are being used here. I plan to play a bunch with this, to really figure out what kind of light is cast at what power and what distance. The episode on [Framed] that inspired the shots below (and the purchase of the dish) is here. I’ll be sure to tell you more as I play.

June 22, 2012Thank you for providing so good information about the 16 inches beauty dish. Your experiments with light are some of the best I have seen and I hope to learn more from you. Do you offer me classes?
